Overall Points The team will be selected in late November or December 2010. To qualify for the team, athletes must accumulate points through a series of tournaments and camps seen in the table above. Also an athlete must attend a minimum of two regional (East, Central, West, and Labrador Opens) tournaments. At the end of the trials the coaching staff will take the three Male U18 and Female U18 athletes who have accumulated the most points.
Tournament Points For each tournament, points will be awarded according to the athletes finishing position as seen in the table above. Regional tournaments are worth 16 points for 1st place and major events such as NL Games and NL Closed are worth 32 points for 1st place. This shows the players skill level compared to his or her opponents. In 2009-2010 all of these tournaments will be held as well in the early 2010-2011 season there will be one or two open tournaments before December 2010. In the end an athletes top 2 finishes will be added together to give them their total tournament points.
Camp Points A series of Camps are to be held throughout the 2009-2010 in each region of the province (St.John's/North, Mount Pearl/South, Avalon, Eastern, Central, Western, Northern Peninsula, and Labrador). Each player will be awarded 8 points for attending the camp in his or her region.
Nationals and Atlantics Points To perform well in a major competition such as the Canada Games, experience is key. This is why we have included a points system for the National Championships and Atlantic Championships. The larger event of the two is the National Championships and certainly simulates the level of competition of the Canada Games very well, this is why our athletes will be awarded 10 points for attending. The Atlantic Championships also offers a lot of experience and tough matches for our athletes and they will be awarder 5 points for attending.
